Backbiting is for Dogs

I have three Labrador Retrievers living in my home. They are not normal, rambunctious, sport-dogs though.  These are unusually docile, preferring to gently nudge each other for affection. In some homes, having three large breed dogs would be chaos.  Most sport dogs have so much energy that they require almost constant direction: long walks, frequent playtimes and lots of attention and toys.  They tussle frequently, grabbing and biting at one another’s face, head, neck and backs.  That is normal behavior for dogs.

It should not be normal for people. Our home is very peaceful. We get aggravated on occasion, but more often, a family member might just walk into a room and thank the other person for being there… just being there.  We appreciate each other.  This is a Scriptural way to behave.

The United States of America is a melting pot of peoples, cultures and traditions.  We are really different in the way we do things.  Our diversity is emblematic of any segment of society.  From an office building to a section  of a city to a church or even an extended family, we don’t all agree about the way things should be done.

Tribes, a book by Seth Goodwin, is about how social media has defied geography and other traditional barriers to find like minded people.  It has helped and hindered groups in very short periods of time.  Consider the ProLife label.  What does it mean?  To some, it means anti-abortion, to others it means restrictive, overbearing, tyrannical prudes.  It can mean you are against euthanasia for elderly or disabled people.  It can mean that a person truly respects the Right to Life for all people.

When I think of ProLifers, I think of a variety of people and personalities providing a variety of activities.  Some build maternity homes for unwed mothers in need.  Some provide resource centers to give women in crisis the tools and stuff they need to get past the crisis and learn new patterns of thinking to have a better life.  Some stand at the doors of the killing centers to provide last minute help to dissuade people from committing abortions.  Some provide care to elderly and infirm and advocating for their needs.  Some provide educational materials to legislators in hopes to enact laws that would safeguard the God given Right to Life for all people.  Some simply live their lives in such a way that they provide a witness and a testimony of what respect for the lives of others means in practice and not just theory.

None of us are perfect.  No one person has all the answers.  No one way to be ProLife is the only way.  I used to tell my children that if it wasn’t about Heaven or Hell, Life and Death it didn’t deserve a fight.  ProLifers are talking about Life and Death and for the purpose of the ability to choose Heaven over Hell.  It is worth fighting for.

The problem is the tussle among those actively trying to make a difference by saving babies and others at risk of being killed. The problem is they are fighting each other, instead of putting all of the energy into solving the problems that cause a nation to sanction killing of innocents.  Are there people making money and gaining powerful influence by perpetuating a less than effective strategy? Probably, but the truth is available.

What can we do?  As a sea change movement, I would like to know that the leaders in our society respect the Right to Life for all people, without exception or qualification.  This would mean that everyone from conception to natural death, regardless of their level of development, degree of dependency, age or ability or manner of conception would be protected by law.  There will always be killers, but let us no longer codify the practice in our laws.  Let us not require others to pay for it by taking our taxes and redistributing them to killers.

The Sanctity of Life Act, aka, H.R. 426 is a good place to start.  The Act simply conveys the protection of rights and privileges of people to those currently without protection, namely, preborn babies.  This Act is currently being ignored by the main stream media and the largest ProLife leaders and so, the general public doesn’t even know it’s in need of support. How can this be?

This bill declares that the right to life guaranteed by the Constitution begins at fertilization.  I could essentially end abortion.  CLICK HERE for the text of the bill.

Is this bill constitutional?

YES….CLICK HERE to read the National Review article about how we can stop abortion through the 14th Amendment.

Can this legislation pass?

The potential for a bill to become a law is often based on surveys or studies of which legislators will vote for it. Many good bills go nowhere because house or senate leadership projects that there are not enough votes. HR426 is a good bill. If legislators don’t want to support it, then we keep bringing it back until they do and don’t support the legislators who would vote against life. We present bills for a cause, not for the voting potential of the legislator.

What should we do about this bill?

Contact your federal legislators (CLICK HERE for contact information) to support HR426.  You can cut and paste the following information, or feel free to create your own:

Introduced on January 21, 2015 by Rep. Jody Hice (R-GA), HR 426, the Sanctity of Human Life Act declares that the right to life guaranteed by the Constitution “for us and our posterity” is vested in each human being at the moment of conception. The fact that life begins at conception is backed by science, and is further supported by the 14th amendment.

I urge you to support this legislation which affirms that the Congress, each State, the District of Columbia and all United States territories have the authority to protect the lives of all human beings residing in its respective jurisdictions.

This legislation when enacted will ensure that our nation once again becomes a nation with liberty and justice, not just for some, but for all.
