Learning From Twitter
I tend to be analytical. The simplest things can have me in deep thought. I’ve always loved the idea of Twitter because of the related text in the Bible. What can we be learning from Twitter?
English Standard Version
Even in your thoughts, do not curse the king, nor in your bedroom curse the rich, for a bird of the air will carry your voice, or some winged creature will tell the matter.
Our voices impact in our world. Experiments with sound and sand demonstrate the way resonance moves matter. We can see how it works too.
The Scripture in Ecclesiastes had a strong impact on me way before Twitter was invented. That, with the books in heaven and the angels that report our behavior gave me a sense of connectedness with the unseen. The light spectrum is similar. There are parts of light that we can see and some that we cannot.
Last week, I went through my twitter connections. I unfollowed some accounts. Some of them are people, some are robots. I used criteria that I use in my daily life.
- Are we following each other? A mutual connection allows us to impact each other.
- I unfollow those who do not follow me, with some considerations.
- If I’m following someone, but they are not following me, might they tweet something that I could reply to or retweet for a good purpose?
- Are they espousing what I would, but with greater influence? Could I multiply their impact?
- Do I want their impact on me?
Our voice comes from our thoughts. Our thoughts begin somewhere. They start with what we allow into ourselves. Some things are imposed, like trauma and abuses, but we can decide to ruminate on good things or bad.
For many years, I was foul mouthed. Then, I saturated my whole life with the Word of God and Christian teachings and sweet music. My thoughts changed and my vocabulary showed it.
Then, life got busy and sour. You might assume, my words again reverted. They did. Not only did my attitudes get sour, but my world got tighter and smaller and my prayers became selfish.
So, I worked hard to expand my connections to the people and concepts that would increase goodness in my life. It’s a real challenge. We live in a very messy world and I don’t want to turn away from the needs around me. I want to bring needs before God for His touch.
There are so many stories of people who need interventions, but they can really cause us tremendous distress. Social media is not conducive to order and peace, but as a part of our lives, I think it is something I’ll stay with, so I can be connected with others.
I will be aware of my exposure and its impact on me. I hope you will too. Be well my friends. Keep learning from Twitter and social media.
