Lyme Life Monday~This One Body

We have one body. We live one life in it. Sure, there are replacement parts, but for the foreseeable future, we have life in one body. For those of us battling Lyme Disease, our bodies are not easy to manage.

One Body

We are eternal spirits. Our earthly life is determined by our intellect, what we decide, how we think, what choices we make in response to the events and circumstances that we encounter here, and how well or poorly we manage our emotions. Our soul; the mind, will, and emotions have a direct impact on our bodies.

It’s pretty simple to see the correlation when it comes to some decisions, like choosing to take a shower. Take a shower and your body gets clean and refreshed, right?

It’s only slightly more complicated to consider what we eat. Eat a hearty meal and feel satiated. However; it’s not just about how you feel directly after eating that matters. If you chose healthy food, you will still feel good later. If not, you might find yourself feeling ill. Long term these choices bear out in our bodies.

Eating a steady diet of good foods and occasional fun foods will yield a healthier body. Eating a steady diet of soda and food-like substances will eventually decrease our defenses and our capacity for restoration and growth. At some point, it will likely open us up for diseases.

I have long known that the impact of what we put into our lives through relationships, from media and our own self-talk can be the very same as what we take into our bodies. Our brain is an organ. As a part of our fleshly body, we generally think of foods that might affect our brains. Some will acknowledge rest as a factor in brain health, but people are just starting to become more aware that they can choose thoughts that directly impact the health and wellbeing of our brains, therefore our lives.

Lyme Dis-ease

Lymies often struggle with brain fog. It makes decisions more difficult and often causes us to forget things. In my efforts to get well, I kept a notebook in every room of my house. That way, I could write down my decisions or recall the things I needed to do or what I would need to prepare.

Food is a really big thing for Lymies. We have various needs depending on what we are actually dealing with at any given time. So, food lists have been on the counter, posted inside the cabinets, on my bedside table, in the notebooks and added to grocery lists. The choices to feed our bodies and get our lives back are inescapable to the whole plan of care. That doesn’t make it easy, but we must.

Focusing on our minds is just as important, some may say more so. Allowing our minds to wander and indulge in unproductive thoughts, ruminating over losses or hurt feelings, is detrimental in the long term. While there are losses to be acknowledged, if we are still breathing there is hope for the future.

Forgiving can be tough, especially if we’re having trouble keeping tight reigns on our thoughts. It is worth it to write down thoughts of forgiveness and statements that empower productive, positive thoughts.

So, keep your food lists. Keep your activity logs. Update your med lists. Keep all of your protocols working for you and remember to be active in promoting healthy thoughts and a healthy brain.

We have this one life in this one body. Let’s get back to it and make it count.
