Pro-Life Missionaries
Student outreach, public demonstrations, conventions and events, fairs and festivals, sidewalk ministry and rallies are all part of the work. So too, are phone calls, letter writing, envelope stuffing, graphic design, social media, resource room maintenance, prayer and lots of other ‘unseen’ work. Such is the lives of pro-Life Missionaries.
Pro-Life Missionaries
Sometimes, it seems like a glamorous business. They travel and see local sights along the way. Photos of landmarks and goofing might make you wish you were there. Many of these missionaries travel to events around the country. Some around the world. A moment of fun captured for social media might actually be the only moment of fun that was had, but that is the one you’ll see.
Their work is to restore dignity and reveal the greatest human rights violations of our day. The threat to the core value of personhood is at stake. 100% pro-life without exceptions is attacked by the seen and unseen world. Hardened people without regard for the dignity of human beings are all around. The Scriptures tell us that we have an enemy that is constantly prowling around seeking whom he may devour, as well.
How they Go
The reality is that traveling for these missionaries is usually no picnic. Donor money is carefully meted out and judiciously accounted for. Sure they might eat at a restaurant, but they might have only eaten once that day. The coach airfare and shared vans are a means to an end. Hotels are often required, but just as often host homes are the key to making a trip happen.
At a host home, good people open their houses to these servants. Their hearts are full as they seek to do their part in bringing awareness or reaching those drawn to the slaughter. Many times, people with the extra rooms at their family home have generous accommodations. But just as often, an average Joe house with a couch and a cat to walk on you at night while you try to get a few hours sleep for the fourteen-hour day ahead has the biggest heart. Sometimes, well-stocked kitchens await these transient souls, refreshing them for their mission. At other times, a cardboard box of peanut butter-cheese crackers and juice boxes are the fare.
Who Goes?
They leave their family, their friends, their pets and their comfort to reach the lost and vulnerable. Their focus, whether prevention, education, or rescue is crucial in our culture.
The heartwrenching reality is that their encounters are often fraught with deep wounds and inexpressible trauma. Abortion, slow-care, and euthanasia have robbed people of dignity and family or friends.
The laissez-faire attitude of some can be painful, but the real ministry happens when they scoop up a broken puddle of a person who has just told them that their sibling was killed by abortion or that their doctor told them to abort their preterm disabled child or their aunt’s life was snuffed out after a stroke.
Pro-life missionaries partake in their pain on a regular basis. Their energy and compassion is poured out in the field. Ever prayerful, ever present they make their hearts open to grief of immense magnitude.
Winning Souls
The next moment, they might see the lights go on for a participant. Someone walks up to the booth or hears a conversation about the dignity and inestimable worth of human beings, simply because they are human beings, and suddenly, they get it. They see that people should be allowed to reach their full potential and that they should not be killed because they don’t meet some arbitrary criteria.
The elation at these moments re-energize them for the next crushing story of brutality and trauma. The rollercoaster of emotions, situations, logistics, and results continue after the events. They must now travel back to their home base to regroup, debrief, and recover. Delays, canceled transit, and all manner of disruptions may occur. Still, Pro-Life Missionaries press on.
Greater love has no man than that they lay down their lives for others.
Thank a pro-life missionary today.
