Pro-lifers Rant For a Reason

I set out to rant for a reason against National Right to Life (NRTL) and Susan B. Anthony (SBA) List recently because they are ignoring the illogical stand of advocating for pro-life laws that have exceptions for rape, incest, and fetal anomaly or poor in-utero diagnosis.

It was a rant for a reason.

I wasn’t complaining for complaining’s sake. It was a rant for a reason. My hope is to prompt enough people to look at it reasonably and change the mindset.

These same organizations point out the myriad of problems women suffer after abortion. They have pages dedicated to showing prenatal development of the babies killed by abortion. They even link to resources for healing after abortion.

Abortion is bad for women, they agree.

Abortion takes an innocent human life, they agree.

Yet, the most vulnerable, most marginalized are somehow immune to abortion trauma?

Is a woman who has been raped, so tough that she won’t be hurt by abortion?

Do you believe she is too damaged to feel the loss of the child?

Is a rape survivor paradoxically impacted by what is often a traumatic experience for other women in crisis situations? Of course, that’s ludicrous!

And what of the baby?

Does he or she deserve to be cut apart, torn limb from limb because his or her father is a criminal when other babies deserve protection because their fathers are merely irresponsible or apathetic?

Does that child not feel the cold steel piercing his or her body? Is he or she somehow not human enough to be allowed to live?

If a child, whom doctors have said is imperfect, is not protected before birth, is it a strange thing to say that older children who develop imperfections would not be protected either?

Do we believe they are less human, less worthy than any other?

And what of the parents that discard that little one? If abortion is bad for women and men, how would this be different? I would bet it might be harder for some because that child needed them and their protection more than most.

This kind of thinking is purely evil. The people doing the thinking are not evil. They need our prayers. They need us to speak the truth in love and show them the folly of such thinking.

The rant is not to blame. It is not to make anyone look bad. It’s not about money or notoriety. It’s about life and death.

There is either a baby worth protecting or there isn’t.

Who are we to pick and choose arbitrary standards for these little ones to meet. No. It is us who should meet the standard.

The Scripture says, “See, I have called heaven and earth as a witness against you this day, that I have set before you, life and death, blessing and cursing. Therefore, choose life, that you and your descendants should live.” It is important to remember: Jesus came that we would have life and life more abundantly. It is the devil who came to steal, kill, and destroy.

Please pray for NRTL and SBA, political candidates and others. Talk with them, if you can, but don’t rail on them. Rant for a reason and a purpose. The reason we speak out is to reveal the truth, not cut anyone down.

Let us all speak the truth in love and by doing so, restore souls, open minds, and save lives.
