Maybe Baby
Are you hopeless or hopeful about our society’s human rights status? Are the upcoming elections invigorating or horrifying? Are you thinking, “Maybe Baby?”
Maybe Baby
I can’t decide. The overwhelming amount of information that comes across my desk each day has me questioning my own stand moment to moment. Following elections is exhausting. I think, “I like what they are saying, maybe baby.” Then, “no way” and “How do we decide when our words mean different things to different people.”
No one can predict the future, but one thing is sure, we are in trouble as a nation. The economy and unemployment, war, suicide rates, gender confusion, abuse of all kinds, young women killing their children with their own hands, men raping babies to death, gangs and violence in the streets, failing education and pure stupidity seem to be everywhere.
Then, stories of heroic acts, great altruistic pursuits, ingenuity, justice, steadfast solid examples of family and community coming together and supporting one another supply glimmers of hope.
I cannot bring myself to watch the debates, local or national. The snippets from my friends are as much as I can handle and stay sane. I had never yelled at my television, until this past year. It hurts my heart to think of the “choice” we have for the highest office in the land.
The abuses of power in many elected offices astounds me. Voter fraud and manipulating propaganda cause me to shake my head and wonder if we can survive as a nation. Anarchy may be on the horizon. How long can a society bathe in the blood of innocents before we drown in it?
Truth or Lies
We have two people running for president that, by all reports, have seedy pasts. One has made it clear that the killing will continue and declared that preborn children should not have rights as persons. That leaves me wondering who else can be deemed, nonpersons. Will we see disabled, mentally impaired, elderly, costly injured or some other arbitrarily contrived status exempt people from legal protections?
They both have documented lies. Each have videos of them saying one thing and making the opposite point side by side floating around the internet. They both have propaganda machines and messaging consultants drumming away constantly.
One has gathered a contingent of the pro-life community, dozens of national leaders in the pro-life movement. He has said they will advise him, now and during the presidency if he wins. Many of the leaders understand that protecting the very least of God’s children garners a respect for all human lives.
One vice presidential candidate said last night that “A society can be judged on how it deals with its most vulnerable: the aged, the infirm, the disabled, and the unborn.” ~Mike Pence
Of course, my concern is one of trust. Can we trust anyone? Is it possible to trust the system? Can we trust that those elitist “pro-life” leaders that make exceptions for children conceived during acts of violence? Will they contaminate pro-life logic?
Simple Logic
Will simple logic reign? ‘There is either a baby worth protecting or there isn’t.”
That spark of hope does resist total despair. Maybe Baby, just maybe there is hope. I want to hope.
What about you?
