Stop Sexual Savagery

To stop sexual savagery may appear to be a colossal problem that we cannot fight, but that is simply not true. There are many organizations that fight the pervasive debauchery in our culture. Any one of us can find one to align with. We can support the solutions with our time, money, energy and we can extend the mission of bringing our community into a culture of dignity and respect.

Stop Sexual Savagery

Pornography harms society. Sexual violence damages individuals and families. All human beings deserve respect. Our bodies are our housing. The person inside is what counts. When we objectify our bodies and treat them badly, that treatment reaches beyond our bodies into our souls and that affects the real us, our spirits.

This is the greatest deception ever perpetrated and we have known about it from the beginning. When Lucifer entered the Garden of Eden and deceived Eve, she and Adam recognized that they were naked. They were then, ashamed. Why? It would appear that they had not worn clothing before. They had been created in the likeness of God. The scriptures say that He is clothed with glory. So, can we assume the first couple was also? When they disobeyed the directive of God, they became separated from Him. They were naked, stripped of glory.

Leaping forward the Bible also tells us to flee sexual immorality. So, it is up to us. Each one of us has the authority over our own lives, but also we impact the lives of others. If we subscribe to porn or what some might call semi-porn, we not only devalue those involved, but we devalue God’s creation and His Word, as well.

We are tri-part beings. Our essence is a spirit. We have a soul, comprised of our mind, will and emotions. We live in a body. Our body is the mechanism for interacting with the world. We see, hear, smell, touch, feel, and very importantly we speak. Our words are containers for power.

When we use filthy language it increases the degradation of all around us. When we speak the truth in love, seeking higher and better things, it increases the dignity of those around us.

How to stop it:

So, what can you and I do about the sexual savagery that is all around us in our culture?

  • We can choose to participate is activities that promote respect.
  • We can buy modest clothing.
  • We can attend events that elevate the human spirit.
  • We can tell the people around us how important they are.
  • We can go to movies that build community values.
  • We can share the words that create an atmosphere of loving kindness.
  • We can play games together.
  • We can engage in profitable pursuits.
  • We can create art and music that empowers us.
  • We can reach out to those who have been hurt.
  • We can be kind to everyone.
  • We can smile.

These things are easy to write on a list, but some days it takes effort. They spring from a heart that is aware of how fragile we all are. The power to change the culture isn’t within us alone, but as a community of people. That is where the real power is.

6You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 8But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

If we know Him, we have the power to change because He gives it to us.  For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

We can shut the TV off. Don’t go to movies with sexual violence. Don’t buy that magazine. Don’t subscribe to the pornography.

It is too simple for some people. Not for me.
